Stop Living for Fridays

For many of us, Fridays are a reward - the finish line of a long, hard week. But what if I told you that you don't have to wait for Friday to start having fun? Imagine a week where you wake up on Monday with the same excitement as you do on Friday… okay maybe not EXACTLY the same but close. It’s possible, and it can have an impact on both your personal life and your career.

The Problem

When we live for Fridays, we fall into a cycle of enduring ‘the dreaded workweek’, only allowing ourselves to enjoy life when the weekend finally arrives. This mindset can lead to burnout, dissatisfaction, and a lack of motivation during the week. In marketing, where creativity and passion are key, this approach can be particularly detrimental.

The Weeknight Shift

The good news? You don’t have to wait until Friday to have fun or feel fulfilled. By making the most of your weeknights, you’ll experience more joy, relaxation, and creativity in your life—elements that are crucial for a successful career and especially in marketing. You can also plan activities for weeknights so that you have things to look forward to. Here are a few ideas we came up with:

1. Plan Mini Adventures

Instead of collapsing on the couch every night, plan small, fun activities throughout the week. Whether it's trying a new recipe, going for an evening walk, attending a mid-week yoga class, or even taking a short drive to explore a nearby area, these mini-adventures can help you break out of the weekday monotony. My personal favorite is going for a drive to get a sweet treat.

2. Reconnect

We often save our social batteries for the weekends, but why not reconnect with friends or family during the week? Host a Wednesday night dinner or catch up over coffee after work. These moments of connection also help to reduce stress and increase happiness, making you more effective and creative in your career.

3. Prioritize Self-Care

Weeknights are a great time to invest in self-care. Whether it's reading a book, having a spa night or indulging in a hobby, these activities will help rejuvenate your mind and body, leaving you more energized and focused at work. A well-rested human is far more likely to produce innovative, high-quality work.

4. Create Daily Rituals

Rituals can bring a sense of purpose and calm to your day. Try starting your morning with a mindful routine like journaling or end your day with a gratitude practice. These small habits can make each day feel more meaningful and enjoyable.

5. Find Joy in the Work Itself

Sometimes, the key to enjoying the week is finding joy in the work you do. Reflect on what aspects of your job you love and focus on those. Whether it’s a challenging project, a brainstorming session, or collaboration with a great team, recognizing and appreciating the positives can shift your mindset.

In Our Careers

If we spend all week just trying to get through to Friday, we’re not operating at our full potential. By making the most of each day, we maintain a steady flow of enthusiasm, which can translate into better ideas, more compelling campaigns, and a more positive work environment. You can maintain a constant balanced, motivated, and inspired state of mind.

Stop waiting for Fridays to start enjoying life. By embracing the whole week and making the most of your weeknights, you’ll find more happiness, creativity, and fulfillment—not just in your personal life, but in your career as well. So go plan that Tuesday night adventure, reconnect with loved ones on Wednesday, and indulge in self-care on Thursday. You might just find that every day can start to feel like Friday.
